Lots happening at Barraba Central School

Barraba Central School
Across the Desk with Patrick Sullivan
Welcome back to Term 3! It’s been a busy start and it’s great to see everyone feeling better after the wave of sickness at the end of last term. Here’s what’s been happening at Barraba Central School:
Campus Improvements
The final roofing work on the Secondary Campus was completed over the holidays. We also installed a new ceiling in the hall between the girls' and boys' toilets. The Secondary Campus looks fantastic with the new roofs and the fresh appearance has been further enhanced by the installation of new artwork around the school. The art has made a significant difference and the school looks absolutely amazing.
Regional Athletics Success
Congratulations to our three students who competed at the regional athletics meet. Jack Myers placed 4th in both shot put and discus, Lachie Rodgers secured 7th place and Leo Lawler came 9th in the 800m. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and achievements in these events.
Public Speaking and Debating
Two of our students, Jasmine Coombes and Kade Spence are competing in public speaking competitions this week. We wish them the best of luck! Additionally, our Year 7 and 8 debaters will compete against Scone High School next week and we are confident they will represent us well.
Aussie Bush Camp Excursion
Years 4, 5 and 6 had an unforgettable excursion to the Great Aussie Bush Camp at Tea Gardens. The students had a fantastic time from all reports and the photos tell a thousand stories. It’s lovely to see the excitement and joy that these experiences bring to our students.
NAIDOC Week Celebrations
The school came together to celebrate NAIDOC Week with the theme "Blak, Loud and Proud." Thank you to Mrs. King for organising the activities and all the students who embraced them. Seeing high school students working with the younger students on such an important event was heartwarming.
Restorative Practice and School Culture
Our commitment to building a culture of restorative practice continues. We were fortunate to have Marion from Real Schools visit and work with teachers and students to deepen our understanding of restorative practices. This ongoing work is crucial in shaping a positive and supportive school environment.
New Zealand Trip Countdown
A quick reminder—the New Zealand trip is only 91 days away! The excitement is building and we can’t wait for this incredible adventure.
Thank you all for your continued support, and I look forward to an exciting and productive Term 3!
New Zealand - Thank you
A big THANKYOU to the Barraba Rotary Club and the Barraba Central School P&C on their generous donations to our NZ Excursion in November. With the combined donations from both groups, it has taken over $500 off each of the student's final payments.
We would also like to thank the Manilla CWA for sharing their knowledge of fundraising ideas and cooking for events.
Secondary debating
Our Secondary debating team are back in the swing of things with their first debate of term 3 against Quirindi in Week 1. They debated the topic 'Public transport should be free for all Australians' and our students argued on the affirmative side. With their well thought out argument and rebuttals, they came away with a win!
Well done to you all, and thank you to Mr Hurn and Mr Johnson for your help
