A PLEASING RESULT IN THE PHOTOGRAPHY SECTION AT 2023 SHOW

126 Open entries and 12 School entries made an impressive display in the Photography Section at this year’s Barraba Show.  We had a quite a few new entrants this year in the Open Classes, which is great for the competition.  New blood is always welcome!

Our judge this year was Chloe Taylor, a Barraba bred girl now living in Bingara with her family.  Chloe has her own photography business; Chloe Renee Photography, which she enjoys in her spare time.  Chloe Renee Photography is also a major sponsor of the Photography Section.

Chloe was very impressed with the standard of the entries she judged.  She commented that it was great that some entrants were thinking creatively to get an image that stood out in its class.

This year, to spread the chances of different entrants winning a major prize, we judged the Grand Champion photo from all 1st prize winners, and removed it from the competition prior to Chloe selecting the Champion Photos in each category – Black & White, Colour and School Classes.  This worked in theory but we did not bargain on one amazing photographer taking out the Grand Champion and two Champion prizes!

Sue Retschlag scooped the pool this year winning; Grand Champion Photo, Champion B&W Photo, Champion Colour Photo and Most Successful Exhibitor.  Her wins were well deserved – the winning entries displayed both technique and “WOW” factor.  Congratulations Sue.

The judge was very impressed with our Champion School Photo by Annabel Kanno.  Annabel’s image of a “fish with a view” portrayed a goldfish with a cityscape background.  The inclusion of a line of bubbles in the water took the photo to its winning position – incredible technique for a young photographer.  Annabel also won Most Successful School Exhibitor.  Well done Annabel.

Thank you to all exhibitors who contributed to our competition this year and helped to create a worthy display for show visitors.  Congratulations to all the place winners.

Photographers now have 12 months to start clicking and working on next year’s entries.  The 2024 schedule will be published on the Barraba Show website within the next few months, when it is finalised.  The school section is currently undergoing a major renovation to attract more entries from budding young photographers in our community.  Remember to read the rules of entry, in particular; minimum and maximum photo sizes, maximum backing mat size and all photos MUST BE TAKEN BY THE ENTRANT.  You can NOT enter photos taken by someone else or enter your photos in someone else’s name as this is unfair to other competitors.  Each entrant can only enter a maximum of 10 images that they have taken themselves.

Thank you to our generous sponsors; Caremore Pharmacy Barraba, Wentworth Travel, Guy Derrick Memorial, Manilla Express Digital Print Kiosk, Rocky Glen Ag, Chloe Renee Photography, Sandra Allen (Polkadot Coffee Room), Paula McIver Photography, Nanette Bowman, Janene Randall, Jennylyn King, Daisy Groth Memorial, Mandy Cabot, Andy’s Guest House, Gerda Gamper, Jenny Farrar, Sue Retschlag, Barraba Potters & Craft Guild and Barraba Shutter Bugs.
