Sewer project a $300,000 investment

Tamworth Regional Council is investing $300,000 to rehabilitate 50 sewer maintenance holes across Tamworth and Barraba, to ensure these crucial pieces of waste infrastructure remain robust for years to come.

A coating of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) will be applied to 34 maintenance holes in Tamworth and 16 in Barraba to combat corrosive gases which gradually dissolve concrete structures such as maintenance holes. Aligning with Council’s priority to deliver durable infrastructure for our region’s growing population, these works are one way Council uses ratepayer’s sewer rates.

Work has begun and is expected to be complete by April 2022. Road users in Tamworth and Barraba may notice some minor changes in traffic conditions during the project.

“These important works will extend the lifespan of the identified sewer maintenance holes by up to 25 years or more, so this project is well worth the investment,” said Daniel Coe, Manager Water & Environmental Operations.
