Nominations now open for Australia Day Awards

Tamworth Regional Council is calling on the community to nominate residents who are making a positive difference locally, with nominations now open for the 2022 Australia Day Awards.

The Awards recognise the efforts of individuals and groups who make an outstanding contribution to their local community, and are a celebration of residents who are dedicated to their community and helping others.

“I encourage everyone to have a think about the people they see going above and beyond for their community, whether that’s an individual making a difference or a group working for the greater good,” said Tamworth Region Mayor, Cr Col Murray.

“They could be part of your sporting club, or working with a charity; they could champion a specific cause in the community or have achieved in their work or studies,” he said. “We are really lucky in the Tamworth region to have lots of worthy candidates, but they often fly under the radar. The Australia Day Awards provides the perfect opportunity for us to formally thank these people for the contribution they make.”

Nominations are being sought for:

  • Barraba – Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year and the Frank Darlington Young Achiever Award;
  • Manilla – Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Achiever of the Year;
  • Tamworth – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and the Mitchell Brady Encouragement Award for Tamworth youths in Year 10 and under.

Nomination forms can be found on Council’s website http://www.tamworth.nsw.gov.au/2022AustraliaDayAwards and Council’s offices in Barraba and Manilla. Nominations close at 4pm on Wednesday 8 December, 2021. The awards for Barraba, Manilla and Tamworth will all be presented at official ceremonies across the region on Australia Day, 26 January, 2022.
