Shutter Bugs out and about

Barraba Shutter Bugs Outings

On Sunday 3rd April three Shutter Bug members travelled from Barraba to meet with four Manilla members to enjoy a morning of photography.  The group called the “Barraba Shutter Bugs” are enjoying a growing number of Manilla attendees at their meetings and outings.

The Manilla Railway Viaduct was a very interesting subject to photograph.  The architectural design provided many focal points for our group.  After a coffee at Warm Discussions, the group headed to the Manilla Weir which was flowing well after the recent rain.  Some great flowing water shots were captured by all.  The more experienced photographers in the group were happy to provide advice and support to those less experienced with their cameras.

On Sunday 15th May eight Shutter Bug members and friends attended a two hour Landscape Composition and Post Editing workshop with Amber Hall at The Living Classroom, Bingara. Amber, of Amber L Hall Photography, refers to herself as a “photographic artist” rather than a photographer.  She has been living a nomadic life for the past three years, free to travel and camp where ever life takes her.  Fortunately for us, 18 months ago, Amber decided to “stay a while” in Bingara. Amber uses drones, DSLR cameras and mobile phones to capture her images. Her love of nature and its simplicity shines through in her photographic art.  Her finished pieces all have a certain “WOW” factor – definitely her trademark.

Amber has recently created a new website www.amberlhall.au and has published two e-books on photographic composition.  Our small group felt very privileged to tap into Amber’s incredible knowledge and to now feature on her website (under Group Workshops)!!  Rick Hutton accompanied Amber for the workshop and provided us with his excellent “landscape story telling” also enlightening us on the purpose and history of The Living Classroom.

The Roxy Theatre Cafe proved to be a perfect venue to discuss photo editing and question Amber further over a coffee. After our workshop we ventured down to the picturesque Gwydir River for lunch and more photography practice.

On the same weekend two of our members attended the 2 day Tamworth Photography Show hosted by Tamworth Camera Club.  There was a full schedule of photography topics providing plenty of new knowledge to those in attendance.

We encourage anyone with an interest in photography, no matter what skill level, to join us.  There is an informal meeting on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 3:30pm at the Claypan Gallery, 74 Queen Street, Barraba.  Check out our Facebook page (Barraba Shutter Bugs) to find out what we are up to.
