Tamworth Regional Council meeting update

Here is an overview of outcomes from the Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 10 April, 2022:

• Councillors tonight endorsed a number of key plans which guide Council’s operations to go on public exhibition to seek feedback from our community. They include Our Community Plan 2023-2033 – a community-owned strategic plan for the future of our region – along with Our Resourcing Plan 2022-2025, Our Annual Plan and Budget 2022-2023 (which sets out the projects and activities Council will deliver in the upcoming financial year) and Our Delivery Plan 2022-2025. The Tamworth region community now has the chance to have their say on these plans which guide what Council does. To have their say, community members can go to the MyTRC Online Community from Wednesday 11 May to Tuesday 7 June, 2022, tamworth.nsw.gov.au A number of pop-up information events will take place across the region during May.
• Councillors considered a detailed report about proposed changes to Domestic Waste Management Charges to start next financial year. The proposals will be included in the draft 2022-2023 Annual Operating Plan, Revenue Policy and associated documents going on public exhibition tomorrow for community feedback. The report said Tamworth Regional Council is proposing some significant changes to the way that waste management charges paid by ratepayers – both residential and commercial - are calculated and shown on rates notices. The proposed changes to the domestic waste management charges include a new model for setting the amount to be paid by ratepayers based on different locations across our region. These changes are being proposed in line with a review of Council’s waste operations and IPART recommendations for Councils around NSW to increase transparency of these charges. After the exhibition period Councillors will review the feedback received and decide whether to formally adopt the proposed charges.

• The top quality of the Tamworth Regional Gallery’s permanent collection has again been recognised with a request for a loan of artworks for display in Ararat (south-west regional Victoria) and Wagga Wagga. A report about the loan came before Councillors tonight because any loans of works must be approved by Council resolution. A request has been received from both the Ararat Gallery Textile Art Museum Australia and the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery for loan of a selection of the Utopia batik silks. The Utopia Collection is historically and culturally important created by first nations people in the Utopic region north east of Alice Springs. It includes more than 50 batik silks, garments, acrylic paintings on paper, silk screen prints, etchings and carved wooden figures. The works will be shown in Ararat in late May and in September in Wagga.
