Council meeting update

Here is an overview of outcomes from the Tuesday 8 February, 2022 Ordinary Meeting:

Councillors attended to some “administrative housekeeping”, formalising appointments to 32 different special purpose committees, working groups, external boards and organisations. They cover a diverse range of purposes including:

o             Disability Access Working Group

o             Tamworth Regional Council Heritage Working Group

o             Crime Prevention Working Group

o             Tamworth University Strategic Working Group

o             Arts North West

o             Tamworth Aboriginal Community Consultative Committee

o             Tamworth Health Committee

There has been considerable discussion among councilllors in recent weeks while learning about the purpose of each committee. Each Councillor was then able to decide how to make best use their skillsets and interests to serve their local community.

Councillors considered a report detailing the work being done by the newly-elected Tamworth Regional Youth Council. The youth council’s first two meetings included the election of the Youth Mayor, Deputy Youth Mayor and Youth Secretary with Cr Calli Nagle, Cr Jack Lyon and Cr Chloe-Lee Opie elected to these roles. Already the Youth Council has discussed opportunities for Youth Week 2022 9 (April 4-14) and councillors resolved to proceed with planning an Accessibility Sports Day event and an Indigenous Cultural Celebration event. The group has also been consulted as part of the development of Council’s Visitor Economy Plan. Tamworth Region Mayor Russell Webb congratulated all youth council members. “It’s a great opportunity for youth to get involved with local government,” he said. The Tamworth Regional Youth Council are a diverse group of young people who advise Council about issues that are relevant to you people across our region. Ordinary Meetings of the Youth Council are held on the last Thursday of the month at Ray Walsh House.
