2022 Barraba Australia Day Celebrations

There was a large crowd at the RSL Memorial Hall on 26 January for the Australia Day celebrations and the Annual Australia Day Awards. MC Helen Rixon kept proceedings moving along nicely. In the background, Tamworth Regional Council local manager Lisa Hannaford made sure all ran smoothly. Author and film producer, Anupam Sharma, was our Australia Day Ambassador.

Tamworth Regional Council was well represented by Councillor Judy Coates and Councillor Stephen Meares; after their official duties, both Councillors used their visit to discuss Barraba matters with the locals present.

The Barraba Band played the National Anthem, and kept us entertained with Australian themed tunes before and during the proceedings. The Barraba Rotary Club provided a sausage sizzle after the event, and over the road, the pool was open for anyone who would like a swim.

From a large field of nominees, Amie Middlemiss was chosen as the Barraba Citizen of the year. Amie, who works tirelessly keeping many of Barraba’s sporting clubs running, was a very popular choice.

The Frank Darlington Young Achiever of the Year was Zahlie Cabot.

The Barraba Lions Club Christmas celebrations and the Historical Society Museum Markets were named joint Community Events of the Year.
