Youth Council Meeting Update - 25 June 2026

Here is an overview of the outcomes from the Tamworth Regional Youth Council Meeting of 25 June 2026.

  • Youth Council began the meeting with a series of communication exercises designed to highlight the importance of clear and effective messaging. In the first activity, Youth Councillors were challenged to explain how to prepare a spotted biscuit to someone who could not ask questions or provide feedback.
The activities demonstrated how easily information can be misunderstood when communication is unclear, and how distractions or divided attention can cause important details to be missed. The exercises reinforced the importance of providing clear instructions, considering the audience, actively listening, and effectively communicating ideas and perspectives.
  • Youth Councillors agreed to invite Sanza Arzal, representing Miss World Australia and Variety – the Children’s Charity, to present on the Beauty With a Purpose project, Dear Diary – Voice for Advocacy. The initiative encourages young people to share their thoughts, experiences and ideas on issues affecting their communities through diary-style writing. Topics may include healthcare, education, public facilities, youth opportunities and other matters important to young people. The project aims to empower youth voices and provide a platform for advocacy and positive community change.
  • Tonight, the Youth Council received and noted the update on the recommencement of the Tamworth Regional Youth Interagency and endorses the proposed approach for ongoing information sharing and engagement between the two groups.
  • The Youth Council received and noted an update on the 2027/2028 Youth Councillor recruitment process. Presentations have been delivered at local schools, with applications continuing to be received ahead of the August closing date.
  • Youth Councillors nominated representatives for the upcoming Councillor Catch Ups and agreed on a preferred date for the end-of-term dinner.
