Frost’s “Inside 55” Art Show

Frost Over Barraba is happening in a different season this year - Spring instead of Winter. There’s another big change planned for Barraba’s iconic arts festival. The 2023 art show has been dubbed “Inside 55”.

Entrants in the art competition are asked to keep their artworks inside= 55x55cm this year. In the past the size limit for works was 1mx1m. The new requirement will mean works are likely to be more affordable to buy. “We have always worked hard to sell the works entered in Frost,’ says Publicity Officer Jane Harris. “Sale of works helps artists, but it also means people can have great regional art in their homes. The Frost committee is passionate about both these things.”

The smaller format also means the show will be more straightforward to hang in this year’s venue, the Treloar Building on Queen Street. “We anticipate the size restriction will mean some artists will need to make work just for this year’s Frost. Creative people often respond very positively to a theme or boundary. We’re excited to see what the ‘Inside 55’ show brings,” says Competition Coordinator Angela Croll.

The art show will be open from 10am on Thursday 31 August and will be open through to Sunday afternoon. Winners will be announced on social media and the radio on the Thursday morning. The committee is planning an event on Friday evening in the Treloar’s Building for everyone to enjoy the show and a catch up.

This year entry paperwork and fees will all be done online. Entries open on 1 July. More information is available on www.frostoverbarraba.org.au
