KEVIN ANDERSON FOCUSED ON REGION’S CRIME

Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson is taking aim at crime, meeting with the new police Minister to highlight the need for more resources in the Oxley command.

Mr Anderson said he had a productive meeting with the Minister, where the issues of 24-hour policing in Gunnedah and the push for additional Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers (ACLO) for the district were raised.

“I worked hard in the last term in government to help boost the ranks of the Oxley Police District and we were fortunate to see good numbers of Probationary Constables join the district, as well as 8 senior police last year,” Mr Anderson said. “I also worked hard to deliver the brand new $8 million Gunnedah Police Station, which has capacity to serve the community 24 hours a day. We now need that work to continue, which is why I took the opportunity to raise our local issues with the Minister. Aboriginal Community Liaison Officers play an important role to establish open lines of communication between police and the local Aboriginal community.” 

“I’m also continuing my push for greater resources in the region. We need more police to be working in the Oxley Command to make the goal of 24-hour policing in Gunnedah a reality. The Labor Government committed to an additional 100 police at the 2023 election, however that commitment was only to Northwest and Southwest Sydney. I will continue to push the government to continue to boost the numbers in our region as well.”
