Under 16s Boys Rugby Friday 6 May 2022

The U16s Boys travelled to Tamworth on Friday 6 May 2022 for their first away fixture against the Pirates. The boys toiled in defence and tackled hard all game but were up against a better-practised side with some more experienced players.

The front row consisting of Jack Myers, Mazry Aurisch and Brock Phillips tackled well and were effective at the rucks. Helping them out from the second row was Jack Coombes who ran some good lines alongside Will Russell. Jack Thomson led the way in the back row, nearly jackaling the ball at ruck time. Michael Walker and Finn Allan tackled players a lot bigger them with great courage. Logan Northey and Sullivan Taber from Manilla were great additions to the squad and it is good to see them back in Rams colours for a second consecutive season. Cooper and Dalton Chapman had some great runs and good passing games when the ball spread wider, opening up their outside backs and putting players into space. Brandon Newell and Dusty Hiscock both had outstanding games creating space wide and consistently getting over the advantage line in attack. Tom Kelly had some good moments in defence and played well for his first game back in a while.

The scoreboard did not reflect the boy’s efforts and their hearty tackling all night long against a physical Pirates’ side. Barraba came close to scoring several times and had some fantastic moments in attack as well. Even a chip and chase from Dalton Chapman which Dusty Hiscock managed to chase down and regather to make some significant gains in territory.

Overall a great night of Rugby for all of the boys’ first game of the season. The boys showed a lot of grit and determination in defence and showed some promise for the rest of the season.

3 points to Brock Phillips for his great tackling, 2 points to Dusty Hiscock for some try-saving tackles and 2 points to Michael Walker for carrying the ball hard, and 1 point goes to Brandon Newell for some good moments throughout the night.

Thank you to Nick Sweeney, Ben Freeman, Ashlee Crouch and Harry Preston for their work throughout the training sessions to help get the boys ready. Thank you, Mr

Melville and Mr Maloney for their help. Thank you to Fermin Allan for driving the bus that night. It is fantastic to see so many people offer to help out with the Rugby program and share the pride with the boys.

See you at training.......Go Rams

U16's Boys Rugby Friday 13 May 2022

Friday 13 May 2022 saw the first home fixture against TAS B's for the boys, as well as the first win. The team ran out onto a muddy pitch with confidence and pride in their jerseys.

With Brock Phillips out this week, Tom Kelly and Mazry Aurisch did a great job subbing into the forward pack. Another effective game for Will Russell in the second row, alongside Jack Coombes who had an outstanding defensive performance and many powerful runs. Jack Thomson made some great tackles and became a 'pest' at the ruck as all good back rowers should. Finn Allan and Michael Walker both put in solid performances also.

Logan Northey and Dalton Chapman directed the team around the pitch well and set up some good opportunities for outside backs Cooper Chapman and Brandon Newell to find some space and get over the gain line. Sully Taber and Dusty Hiscock were solid as always on the wings, running hard lines and making good tackles. Juarn Stanton-Sing from Manilla made his first appearance in Rams colours and made a big impact from fullback.

The boys fought hard in difficult conditions to come away with a deserved win. 3 points go to Jack Coombes and Jack Thomson, 2 points to Jack Myers and 1 point to Brandon Newell.

Thanks to TAS for travelling to our home grounds. Thanks also go to Nick Sweeney and Ben Freeman, Mr Maloney and Mr Melville and any other club associates who have helped out with coaching and management. Thank you also to the Middlemiss family and Simon Koopman for their organisation and Ben Crowley for refereeing on the night. Thank you to Greg Frost for organising the bus. It was fantastic to see so many supporters and community members down at the club to support our boys.

Well done boys, let's build from here. Go Rams.

See you at training.......
