WASHING MACHINE EXCHANGE PROGRAM

Subsidising eligible low-income households to upgrade their inefficient top-loading washing machine to a water and energy efficient front-loading model.

About the program

The NSW Government’s Washing Machine Exchange Program is subsidising eligible low-income households to upgrade their inefficient top-loading washing machine to a water and energy efficient front-loading model – saving water and easing the cost of living.

A new round of the program is now open and 6,500 machines are available. The last round assisted nearly 5,500 households across NSW upgrade their washing machines with a water savings of approximately 107 million litres annually. This NSW Government initiative targets water savings at the household level. By upgrading, your household can expect to save about $300 (incl. GST) per year on water, energy and detergent costs with water savings anticipated to be around 20 kilolitres of water per year.

The program round is now open and will close when all washing machines have been allocated for that round. Subsequent rounds will likely take place. Successful applicants will pay $250 for the front load washing machine, delivery, installation, and a 2-year warranty. Successful applicants will have 21 days to make payment. Please note, delivery may take up to 12 weeks after receipt of payment.

To be eligible for the program you must:

  • be a resident of NSW
  • be more than 18 years old
  • hold a valid Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card* or Low Income Card from Centrelink or Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • have an existing top-loading washing machine to exchange
  • not have participated in the 2022 or 2025 rounds.

  • Make sure you have your valid concession card handy before you apply.
  • If successful, your application will be approved instantly, and you will be able to place your order. 

To complete your application, you will need an:

  • Image of your concession card to confirm it is valid and up to date. Please ensure all details entered are an exact match to those on your concession card.
