TAMWORTH REGIONAL HERITAGE FESTIVAL – some events coming up

Steam Engines in action – 2024 Heritage Festival

20 April @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm

21 April @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

Free

Join us at the Tamworth Powerstation Museum and watch the mighty John Fowler Steam Engines come alive!

The Tamworth Powerstation is lucky enough to house two restored Fowler cross compound under type steam engines, similar to those used in 1888. These restored engines are only ‘powered up’ a few times each year, where you can feel the heat from the boiler, see the escaping steam and witness engines that were used to power electric street lighting many years ago.

The steam engines will be running on Saturday 20 April, from 3pm – 7pm, and Sunday 21 April from 9am-1pm.

You can see the steam engines for free!

Entry fees into the Museum apply, $5 per adult and $3 for concession card holders.

Pop on down and see history in action!

Electric Lamp Manufacturers Documentary Launch – 2024 Heritage Festival

20 April @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm   Free

For the buddying historians, join us for the launch of the Electric Lamp Manufacturers (E.L.M.A) documentary!

See footage captured on site in Newcastle’s Hamilton North just before it’s closure in early 2002 showcasing how the factory worked and the exact process followed to create each incandescent lamp. E.L.M.A was the last Australian operated manufacturer of lamps and was establish in 1931.

This will be the first time this footage has been shared in public, thanks to the Film and Sound Archive, and in conjunction with the Powerstation Museum.
