Opportunity for residents to request planning changes
Residents wishing to request a change to planning legislation affecting properties across the Tamworth region have an opportunity to do so from this week, with the Tamworth Regional Local Environmental Plan 2010 (LEP) going under review.
Tamworth Regional Council is accepting Expressions of Interests (EOI) from members of the public between Monday 24 October and Monday 5 December 2022.
The Expression of Interest period will provide the opportunity for people to request changes to the LEP in areas such as zoning, minimum lot size, building heights, floor space ratios or heritage listings. Council will then review requests and respond to submissions accordingly on a case-by-case basis.
Tamworth Regional Council’s Director of Liveable Communities, Gina Vereker said that the Local Environmental Plan is reviewed periodically to ensure it meets best planning practices.
“We want to ensure that the LEP is aligned with community values and aspirations, as well as with the directions of Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement and state plans such as the New England North West Regional Plan 2041”, she said.
“We are now undertaking a comprehensive review of the LEP and this EOI process provides the community with an opportunity to submit a request for changes to be made prior to the preparation of a new LEP in 2023”, said Ms Vereker.
Once the review process is complete, the new LEP will go on formal Public Exhibition in 2023.
