Bank of NSW built in 1905 - why was it demolished

15th June 2022

WHY WAS THIS GREAT BUILDING DEMOLISHED?

Can anyone who worked in either the Bank or NSW or Barraba Post Office prior to their demolition please give us any information of the existence of serious structural defects in these buildings? That is, brickwork fractures or wall shifting NOT small plaster cracks.

This photo is the Bank of NSW Barraba built 1905. It was apparently taken by Albert York Snr soon after it was built.

A beautiful building casually destroyed by banking bigwigs in a boardroom in Sydney. No footpaths at that time and a bit of non-horse manure rubbish around. I have seen various postcards Albert York produced from some of his photos but none that equal the clarity and detail of this print.

Our thanks to David York for this marvellous piece of history.
