     Dive into Reading Book Fair

Our Annual Book Fair is over for another year. Each day at recess, Secondary SRC members visited the Primary students to read with us while we ate. Thank you, Miss Mulligan for organising the Secondary SRC students to read, what a fabulous initiative. Thank you to Lilly Turner, Phoebe Hunter, Hannah Walker, Bella Dipple, Michala Princic and Isabelle for your input. The student audience should also be congratulated on being respectful while the girls read.

A highlight was the Family Read-In on Thursday 19 May, where we donned our PJs and were treated to sharing the nightly reading routines of many of our families. Our radical reading Principal Mr Sullivan started the evening with a reading of Hairy Maclary which we all know and love. Families who shared their nightly reading routines of farting, making noises and using expressive voices included the Hands, Johnson, Watkins, McIlrick, Brighton, Kenny, Denyer, Russell and Coombes families. We were very lucky to also listen to Kade Spence, Leo Lawlor and Cody Simpson read Pig the Star which was fantastic.

Mrs Sweeney showed us how teachers engage the students while reading Pog. We all enjoyed milo and cake prepared by Miss Hook, Mrs Middlemiss, Michala Princic and Hannah Walker. We all dived into reading many a good book and had a fun night. A colouring competition was also held and Bella Markwort-Milides, Zane Chapman and Abigail Johnson each won a poster for their sensational colouring. Thanks to everyone who supported our Book Fair with the purchase of a book or additional items. Early morning sales were hot, while Thursday was also constant. To our surprise, the Library benefitted from $500 worth of books which was 30% of sales. We are very grateful to Samuel Crowley, Hayden Crowley, Bella Markwort-Milides, Kobi Milides, Karen Hughson, Mylee Groth, Sophie Mawson, Tillie Kenny, Charlie and Leah Kelly and Georgia and Riley King for their generous donations of books.

Until next year, keep exposing your children to 3 books per day- a favourite, a new book and just one more!…give books for birthdays and Christmas and sing rhymes to promote a love of reading. Thanks again and remember to look on the school Facebook site for the fantastic mini-movie which Mrs Bluett created, with photos of all our students diving into reading.
