PETITION CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO ACT

A new e-petition calling on the government to do more in response to the escalating crime crisis gripping regional NSW is now online. Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson said this was an opportunity for victims of crime and concerned locals to make their voices heard.

“Deeply disturbing incidents of crime are continuing throughout regional NSW, and local residents and victims have had enough,” Mr Anderson said. “That includes people like Tamworth’s Phebe Furneaux who has been a victim of a violent home invasion.”

The Time for Change! Petition calls on the government to:

  1. Strengthen bail laws to prevent violent young offenders from re-offending.
  2. Provide increased resources and support for police officers to effectively apprehend and prosecute officers.
  3. Review the judicial system to prioritise community safety.

“People have a right to feel safe in their homes, and that right has been robbed from them by a rising escalation in violent offending. The safety of our community should be the number one priority for the government and this petition allows our community to have our strong voice heard.” Mr Anderson said.

The NSW e-petition can be signed on the NSW Government website.
