Blithe Spirit at The Playhouse this Sunday

31st October 2023

Live Sunday playreading at The Playhouse Hotel

This Sunday 5th November a group of locals will perform a rehearsed reading of Noel Coward’s witty comedy Blithe Spirit in the theatre at The Playhouse Hotel.

Written in 1941, Blithe Spirit was Coward’s greatest theatrical success, enjoying long runs in London and New York, and being filmed at least three times, notably with Rex Harrison and Margaret Rutherford. The plot concerns an author who invites an eccentric clairvoyant to dinner with a view to studying her for his latest novel. She inadvertently conjures up the ghost of his first wife, causing havoc in his new marriage and upending his household.

The readers in this hastily rehearsed performance include Kerrina King, Andrew Sharp, Terry Clarke, Isis Ashton, Lee Loudon and Meredyth Bell, with Maggie Blinco as the clairvoyant Madame Arcati.

The performance begins at 2.30 pm, preceded by lunch from 12.30. Show tickets are $20 pp and the two course lunch is $35. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but lunch must be booked in advance by phoning 6782 1109.
