Barraba Rams in the semis

16th August 2023

Rugby Report

The Barraba Rams and Ewes travelled to Scone on Saturday to do battle with the locals who came here in the first round confident of victory only to go home with their tails between their legs. In the Men’s game they got another tune up for a score line Barraba 41 points to 19 and ensuring the Rams made the semi-finals for the second year.

Competition points for Reserve Grade are as follows; Pirates 81, Moree 71, Narrabri 63, Barraba 54, Gunnedah 48. So, with a home game this week against Moree, we will see how our chances look for further progress. With Moree and Pirates in First Grade, while Narrabri, Walcha and Quirindi fight out for 4th spot. Three of the Rams opponents will be possible semi-finalists in two grades, which may be an advantage to the Rams, especially as First Graders may not be allowed a grade after playing a certain number of First Grade matches. The Rams have been playing dome top grade players during the year, because we did not have a First Grade.

Players points were;

Players Player and 3 points W. Robinson

2    J. Mallise

1    O. McKenna

The girl’s game proved a close encounter with a score line of 17-22 to Scone, so the girls were in the game all the way. Moree have to beat the girls on Saturday to make the semis.

Players Player was G. Johnson and both the Kelso girls had strong games.

The Rams last home game will with the girls at 2.20pm and 3.15pm for the Rams match, should be a good match.

Last Friday evening the young Under 16 Rams played Moree here and after a close game ran out winners 10-5. Thanks again to Ben Crowley who officiated as referee.

Once again, the Barraba Rugby Club would like to thank all the loyal and new sponsors for their support which we hope will continue in the future as it is allowing the Club to function successfully and be a competitive unit in the Central North competition.
