Save the Manilla Viaduct

16th May 2023

Manilla Historical Society is appealing for Community support for getting the Manilla Railway Viaduct Heritage listed. The Heritage Council has announced their Intention to list it on the State Heritage Register.

We are now appealing to the Barraba community to put pen to paper to help us get this listed, as we believe the building of this Railway Viaduct also helped Barraba as much or more than Manilla. The Significance of the Viaduct is that it is the Longest Curved Wooden Viaduct in NSW. It’s building opened up the Barraba District as a wheat growing area, carted wool, and other products from the district including Asbestos from the Woods Reef mine. It also opened up a passenger service to Barraba. It is vitally important to get as many people as possible to put in submissions supporting this listing, as it is an important part of our railway history.  Thank You.

Submissions are to be addressed to,
