FREE DIARY TO INFORM SENIORS OF THEIR RIGHTS
Consumer rights, scams and legal help are all included in ‘Legal topics for older people diary 2022’, now available for free from the office of Kevin Anderson.
Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson has welcomed the return of the diary and is encouraging local seniors to get in touch and pick up a free copy.
“This diary is a fantastic asset for seniors in our region,” Mr Anderson said.
“Not only does it serve as a diary, but it also includes key advice, information and contact details so that seniors in our community can best protect themselves from fraudulent activity.
“Sadly, fraudsters take advantage of seniors and incidences of fraud and identity theft are on the rise right across the country. Recently, scammers have been calling seniors claiming to be from the ATO, the NBN, or the Commonwealth DPP. Many in our community would also have been receiving fraudulent texts claiming we have a package on the way.
“This diary helps to assist seniors in identifying that fraud and knowing when not to give important information away over the phone.”
Attorney General Mark Speakman said seniors across our communities often face unique legal and non-legal challenges, which this diary will help them navigate.
“We‘re supporting NSW residents to age with dignity. This includes providing them with critical information about where they can get help with consumer rights, internet banking scams, financial hardship, aged care and housing,” Mr Speakman said.
Minister for Seniors Natalie Ward said some older people may be unaware of the legal avenues available to them.
“This diary helps break down the barriers which may prevent our seniors from asking for support and to arm them with the tools they need to access services available to them,” Mrs Ward said.
