Joey's News

The Joey's annual Athletics Carnival was a great success even though it had to be a bit different this year. The Carnival couldn't be attended by parents this year, who normally provide great moral and practical support. There was perfect winter weather for the day which started with running the sprints at the local sports ground. The Carnival then used the school grounds for the field events, including the new long jump pit established for the occasion. Thank you to the Fletcher family for your expertise and help in creating the new facility.

Teachers and students spent time celebrating and investigating Marriage and Family Week recently. Students made cards and gifts and delivered them to various local people in some walking excursions around town. This included Richardson House residents, who received some gifts of biscuits and colourful drink coasters from Miss Outridge and her Year 2/3/4 students. If there is anyone in the community you think would appreciate something from our students please let the School Office know.

Last week the resignation was announced of Rachel Caskey as Principal of St Joseph’s Primary School Barraba. Rachel will continue to be Principal until the end of the 2021 school year. Rachel and her family are relocating to Ellerston, near Scone. Rachel began as a teacher at St Joseph's in 2007 before being appointed to the role of Principal in 2017. Joey's is very grateful to Mrs Caskey for her contribution to the school community and the system of schools in the Diocese of Armidale. There will be opportunities towards the end of the year to acknowledge and give thanks for her many contributions to Catholic Education. In the meantime the Catholic Schools Office will work in partnership with Father Curran and the school community to begin recruitment for a new principal at St Joseph’s Barraba.
