Golfers play for the SAND trophy

6th June 2023

Golf Notes

This week players contested both an Individual Versus Par for Phil Hiscock’s trophy and also formed teams of three to play a 3 BBB (3 Ball Best Ball) for the SAND trophy. The SAND trophy is donated by a number of our lady golfers. As a double event the unwritten rule is that players can’t win both events. There was a great turnout of 36 players and many commented whilst the grass coverage has held up the run on the course has returned. This was reflected in some individual scores with the long hitters taking advantage whilst even some of our steadier golfers who tickle them down the middle enjoyed the extra run.

The winner of Phil Hiscock’s trophy with a very good individual score of plus 7 was Dave McMurtrie and the runner up was Will Sedgwick plus 6.

Kerrie Smith whilst carding a plus 6 was in the winning team for the SAND trophy and couldn’t claim an individual trophy.

The winners of the SAND trophy were Kerrie Smith, Aly Smith and Amanda Koopman on plus 12. Runners up were Peter York, Craig Ruttley and Mike Artis on plus 11. Unfortunately, the team of Graham Bowman, Bevan Benson and Dave McMurtrie with plus 13 where the victims of the one trophy rule.

NTPs went to:

Amanda Koopman 3rd

Sam Faint 12th

Bill Simpson 16th

Next week we play an Individual Stableford for the Betty Artis Memorial trophy and the week after, Sunday 18th is the second round of our Club Championships for Campbell Tonkin’s trophy.

Tuesday ladies golf has started at 9am each week for nine holes. All are welcome, and beginners are encouraged to join in. Coffee afterwards. This week we paid our respects to two past members Kevin Currell and Peter Geary. Our deepest sympathy to both families.
