Barraba Central School Principal's Report

28th May 2024

Barraba Central School

Welcome back to Term Two, everyone! I hope you all had a refreshing break and are ready for another term of learning and growth. We have had an exceptional start to the term, with many exciting developments and achievements to celebrate.

Firstly, I want to extend heartfelt congratulations to our primary students who participated in the Zone Cross Country. Your tremendous effort and dedication were truly inspiring, and I want to give a special thank you to Mrs. Lowe for her outstanding organisation of the event. It was fantastic to see so many parents from across the Tamworth zone joining us and enjoying the beautiful weather here in Barraba.

We are thrilled to announce Dusty Hiscock's selection for the Greater Western U15 Rugby League side. This is a remarkable achievement for Dusty and a testament to his talent and hard work. We are incredibly proud to have him represent our school and community in the upcoming CHS Championships in Wollongong.

We are excited to share that Barraba Central School was fortunate enough to receive a generous grant of $2000 from Whitehaven to support our tree-planting initiative. This wouldn't have been possible without the collective effort of our students, Mr Maloney's tireless organization, and the exceptional work of Mr Jones and Mr Frost in coordinating this endeavour. One of the highlights of this initiative was witnessing our Year 9 & 10 students collaborating with Miss Hook's Kindergarten/Year 1 students to plant trees at the Primary Campus. This intergenerational partnership not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also fosters a sense of community and shared responsibility among our students.

Luna, the school support dog, and I have had the privilege of spending time with the preschool students this year, visiting every Thursday. We were fortunate enough to attend the Mother's Day morning tea at the preschool, where we had the opportunity to meet all the mothers who came to celebrate. Additionally, this week, we accompanied the preschool students to Richardson House. Luna had an absolute ball, receiving plenty of cuddles and even sneaking a few biscuits off the dining table. It has been a delightful experience taking Luna out into the community and witnessing the beautiful activities the preschool students are engaged in.

You may have noticed an article from Real Schools in this newsletter, as we are partnering with them to implement restorative practices within our school. Our focus is on cultivating a school culture based on our core values of safety, respect, and learning. School culture is shaped by our collective behaviour and actions, and I am committed to fostering a culture of kindness, understanding, and inclusivity. Over the next three years, we will work diligently to strengthen our school culture and equip our students with the skills to become outstanding individuals in our community.

As always, I encourage you to reach out with any questions or concerns. Let's continue to make Barraba Central School a place where every student feels safe, respected, and supported in their learning journey.
