Community College regional staff learn to pot

A DAY OF LEARNING FOR COMMUNITY COLLEGE STAFF

On Wednesday 28th June the Barraba Potters and Craft Guild entertained 22 members of staff from the Community College. They travelled from Moree, Narrabri, Warialda, Inverell, Gunnedah and Barraba. It was part of a Professional Development Day for the staff.  Ann Smith, Annie Clough, Cathy Maher and Jenni Carlin, from Gunnedah, demonstrated an introduction to clay.  The visitors started with making their own handmade pinch pots, then progressed onto lots of lovely items. They were also given a demo on the pottery wheel, which enticed a few of the ladies to give it a go.

A group were also entertained around the open fire by Mandy Cabot and her spinning wheel. Crochet and knitting, plus lots of chatter and laughing was the go there.

By all accounts it would seem the visitors enjoyed “getting their hands muddy” and having a “yarn”.  It gave them a rewarding break from their day to day commitment to community learning.

To top off a ‘fun day’, Bronwyn Clinch, Judy Sautchuk and Marjorie Urquhart produced a magnificent morning tea and lunch, to everyone’s delight.
