TRC School Holiday Program

6th July 2022

Combat the boredom these Winter school holidays

With schools on break in the coming weeks, Tamworth Regional Council has curated the ultimate line-up to beat the holiday boredom. A fantastic calendar of events and activities has been announced to keep the kids busy between Tuesday, 5 July and Saturday 16 July.

Tamworth Regional Council, Coordinator Out of School Hours Care and Youth Centre, Haley Fenn, commented, “We have a fantastic selection of activities on offer across the region that will entertain the kids for an hour or even a full day.”

Catering for ages five through to sixteen, there are events and activities for all. Haley added, “We have activities on offer across multiple locations, times and all at varying costs. Not to mention online workshops which are accessible at any time, meaning anyone in the Tamworth region can get involved.”

The array of activities includes creative map-making, still-life painting, board games, oztag, basketball, clay sculpting and so much more across venues including the Youthie, Bicentennial Park, Tamworth Regional Gallery and online.

A highlight of the program is a special workshop for kids to explore the traditional craft of weaving with local Gomeroi artist, Sophie Honess. Ms Honess will guide participants through the process of weaving with recycled textiles on handmade reclaimed wooden looms at the Tamworth Regional Gallery, with participants creating a woven wall hanging or table mat.

The activities and experiences will not only help to keep kids busy during the break, but set out to foster community engagement and inclusivity amongst the youth of our region. With NAIDOC week taking place from July 3 to 10, the holiday program features a NAIDOC fun day at Bicentennial Park, where participants are invited to celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
