U14 - rugby season ends

17th November 2021

U14's Regional Rugby

The 2021 Rugby season has officially come to an end, following our presentation evening on Monday 1st November 2021. Thank you to everyone who attended to help make it a special event for the players and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to the team this season.

It has been a privilege for myself, Mr Maloney and Mr Melville to coach the boys and watch them come together as a team unit and play with grit and heart against some strong competition. This season helped lay a strong foundation for future years, as well as building a club culture aligned with the Barraba Rams.

On the night the following players received awards. Best forwards went to Jack Coombes and Brock Phillips for their strong ball carrying and work at the set piece. The award for the Best Back was presented to Dustin Hiscock for his effective running lines and ball chasing in attack. The Sportsmanship award was picked up by Logan Northey for all around integrity and club spirit on and off the field. The Coaches’ Award, whilst being a tough decision, was presented to Jack Myers for consistently strong performances in all games and in particular his fearlessness in contact. Michael Walker, who has made some enormous contributions with his tackling and ball carrying, received the Player’s Player award as voted by his teammates.

A big thank you must go to some special people for helping our season run. Firstly, Jenny and Shayne Middlemiss for their hard work and organisation this season. Thanks also to our volunteer parent bus drivers Troy Thomson, Matt Walker and Fermin Allan for sacrificing time to help out with the away trips. Thanks to Kym Uhr for running the canteen and to Simon Koopman for helping out and supporting the boys. Lastly thank you to all parents for making sure the boys could get to training and for your support. It was fantastic to see staff from Barraba Central School cheering from the sidelines. Ben Freeman’s coaching has been enormously valuable, from scrum and lineout sessions to simply an extra man holding a pad, his contribution has been immeasurable.

Well done to each and every one of the players for wearing the Barraba Rams jersey with pride and leaving a legacy with this year’s team. Congratulations on a strong season and we look forward to building on this next year.
