Rugby Union recap 9-5-26
Rugby Union Recap – 09.05.2026
On Saturday the Barraba Rams headed to Armidale for the 3rd round of the NERU competition where they went up against the Armidale Blues.
Our Women’s side after having already 2 wins under their belt for the season kicked off the day feeling very confident. With a gap spotted early on from 5/8 Ally Smith throwing Lelani Tevaga a neat cut out ball to put her over for the first try. A strong Blues side made our girls work hard in attack and even harder in defence where they came back getting 2 tries on us from strong runs up the centre. Lelani making another break offloading to Ally to run on putting another try on the board for the girls. Jordyn Snape was next to push over the line with great work from our forwards helping to push her across, Addison Dixon successfully converting gave us a lead of 17-10. The Blues didn’t back down and with strong carries pushed across the line on the bell, but with an unsuccessful conversion the Rams took the.win 17-15. There was lots to be taken out of this game for the girls and plenty to be worked on at training before their next hit out on the 23rd May.
The Men’s side then took to the field with a positive attitude for the day after 2 losses for the year already. The very young Rams side showed great skill in attack utilising the speed and strength from young Jarrod Petrus in the centre, with Brendan Newell and Tom Croll moving the ball around the field nicely. Strong defence as always from the forwards in particular young James Brand. Whilst the very knowledgeable Blues side gained a quick few tries on our boys they always came back strong and held their heads high. Cooper Chapman was first to cross the line for our boys with an outstanding run, unfortunately getting his hand trodden on after scoring he was sidelined due to injury. Brandon Newell’s quick step and speed saw him cross the line for the second try of the day for the Rams, Both tries were converted successfully by Tom Croll. Unfortunately, just not enough to get a win going down 48-14. Credit to the Rams as a very young side entering a tough first grade competition. Hang in their boys, a win is coming your way!
