Rugby Union News

The season kicked off last Saturday with Barraba travelling to Narrabri for two games in very hot and humid conditions, which made things difficult, sapping the players energy.

The girls took on the locals in the early game and came up against a very hot outfit on the day, they tried hard and never gave up, much to their credit. Best on the day was Kiah Newell, 3 points, 2 points to Emily Kelso and 1 point to Jemma McDouall. The ‘Players Player’ went to Kiah Newell. This award is voted on by your team mates.

In the men’s game, under similar conditions, the first quarter of the game was a ‘no quarter given’ by both teams as play was centered around the midfield until the locals were able to cross for points. Narrabri proved a bit too strong for the Barraba/Gwydir combination.

Points were awarded to Connor Rodgers, 3 points; J. Batchelor, 2 points; 1 point to Jack McCarthy and Jack Robinson. ‘Players Player’ went to Will Robertson narrowly from Connor Rodgers.

With the bye over the weekend the Club will not be playing until the 23rd April and that game will be play at Bingara. The following week the Club has a bye.
